Cherokee Nation, Gilcrease Museum unite for historic Cherokee exhibit By Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker For Cherokee Nation citizens, few things are more important than preserving who we are as a tribe and sharing our story with others. A new exhibit hosted by the Gilcrease Museum, called “After Removal: Rebuilding the Cherokee Nation,” tells the story of the Cherokee Nation from forced removal, also known as the Trail of Tears, to the tribe’s settlement in Tahlequah and the formation of a new government in Indian Territory. The time span of the exhibition illustrates not only an important time in the history of the Cherokee people, but also an important moment in the history of the eventual state of Oklahoma. This exhibit is not a summary of our past, but rather a reminder of how far we as a people have come and the strength and perseverance it took to do so. It features more than 100 items of original artwork and a...

A question concerning long term planning AUGUST 27, 2017 AT 4:18 PM homesteading, farming, gardening, self sufficiency and country life / /u/anglesdangles Hello fellow homesteaders :) Long time lurker of the sub, first time poster. We recently sold our starter home and are renting a house. We have a 20 acre plot of land in western Washington we are about to pay off with the proceeds from the house (yippeee!!). We have a rough two year plan for saving and building our home. We want to get a really thorough survey of the property to make more informed decisions for planning of water run off (sloped land) and adjusting current access (has a BAD hairpin turn that will cause issues for anything bigger than a large pickup) house and shop placement, septic, future garden, orchard... and all the rest. The land currently has an old logging road for access with two clearings on the property, water, phone, and power to corner of the property. Question: Suggestions on what I need to be asking wh...

Larry – Ever since the election, I’ve been studying the suffrage movement again. These extraordinary women worked for years to earn the right to vote. They marched, protested, wrote letters, organized – and their actions led to the adoption of the 19th Amendment, 97 years ago this weekend. We’ve come a long way since then. But we still have a lot of work ahead of us to secure real equality for all women and all members of our community. What we do these next four years will shape the future of our country. Since President Trump’s election, I’ve been inspired by seeing thousands of women step up to run for office, from city council to the Senate. Women are leading the resistance, and we need to do everything we can to help them get off the sidelines and into office. In honor of the anniversary of the 19th Amendment, Off The Sidelines has set a big goal of raising $10,000 before midnight to support women running for office. Will you give $5 or more now? HuffPost AdChoices Aiko Stevenson, Contributor Freelance Writer The Trump Presidency: Is The End Nigh? Have Trump’s recent nuclear threats and pro-neo-Nazi remarks marked the official start of his downfall? 08/19/2017 10:22 am ET Updated 5 hours ago KEVIN LAMARQUE / REUTERS Hours after being ousted out of the White House, Steve Bannon, Trump’s controversial chief strategist and former right-hand man made a potentially prescient statement: “The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won: It’s over.” Whilst he may be referring to Donald Trump’s ‘America First’ nationalist agenda, one can’t help but wonder whether the president’s recent nuclear threats against North Korea coupled with his pro-neo-Nazi remarks have marked the official start of his downfall. Has the Narcisist-in-Chief now entered the final death throes of his presidency?
